So we just moved into a Brooklyn apartment with a yard.
Well, it’s more of a dirt lot.
In a row of overgrown plots behind a row of four story buildings housing eight apartments each, our little plot has been cleared of weeds and is cordon ed off by age old weeds and a brand new wood fence. It’s just waiting for some people with a little time and care to make it their own.
Which is of course where we come in. I’m Anita, working in communications for nonprofits, and I live with Christine, who’s worked in museum fundraising and is now getting her degree in Library Science and Melissa, an established librarian who’s getting her Masters in Education. We’re no garden pros, but in the Big City, having a corner of outdoors to call your own is a real treasure.
So this blog is meant to document the transition, ugly duckling style, of this dirt plot into a garden of note that will provide beauty, pleasure and food to us and our friends. I hope you join us to watch it grow.
