NYTimes Covers Rooftop Gardens from here to the Bay

June 19, 2009

So beautiful! Read about rooftop gardens in Greenpoint, San Francisco and everywhere in between.

We’ve actually been having bad luck with our vegetables – the areas of the garden that looked sunny in the spring quickly became engulfed by the  shade of the trees once the leaves were fully grown in. A tomato attempts to fill its cage like a little kid wearing his dad’s shoe, and our carrots and lettuce are still looking like sprouts when they should be gangly teenagers.

Maybe we should bring them to our roof, where there is sun, but also wind and strange occurences. Our neighboring roof has a soggy mattress, and the third floor apartment has been broken into by people climbing down from the roof. Who  would get to eat our tomatoes in the end?
