Community Food Security and Food Justice

On the heels of the article on food security that got green Tweeters and Bloggers in a tizzy, City Farms offers this workshop to bring not just food solutions but food concerns to the local level.  According to their site this workshop invites participatns to “identify food needs in their neighborhood and explore how community gardens can fill the gap by increasing the amount of food grown, marketed and donated.” With Brooklyn Queens Land Trust and Green Guerillas Youth Tillers Program.

Bkfarmyards Fundraiser

So now you know all about what’s what in the city’s intricate web of food issues – why not come out and support a rad organization that’s making a difference one yard at  a time? That’s right – second shout today for bkfarmyards and their fun fun fundraiser tomorrow. $5 suggested donation gets you in the door to party with the locals, and don’t forget to sign up for raffle prizes that’ll have you eating like a locavore for weeks.

Green Edge Collaborative Supper Club

And now…dinner time! Part speaker series, part potluck, Green Edge Collaborative, where I’ve started volunteering, hosts regular supper clubs all over the city, inviting smart green speakers to share their knowledge over a potluck dinner. This month it’s at the Brooklyn Creative League, with Chris Davis from The Green Challenges, talking about his work convincing the Big Corporates  to adopt sustainable practices.
