Half a garden for a 100 bucks

August 17, 2008

Yesterday was a big day for our plot.

Thanks to craigslist, we found a woman moving out of a pretty garden apartment in South Slope who wanted to sell her plants, tools, and more. She hooked us up with:

4 hostas

1 huge gardenia

A herd of day lilies

Two lilies taller than me (I’m 5’2″)

Two pretty plants with red and green leaves called coral bells

A christmas rose that will flower in those dreary winter months

A pile of other plants, trowels, cultivators, and gloves

One chair hammock that doesn’t seem to be accommodatable by our trees.

We took it home in my little honda civic. I could see a jungle in the rear view, and we had to have those tall lilies sticking their pretty heads out of the window in order to fit them in the back seat. Christine was counting stares on the street, and we got a few, a real accomplishment in New York.

We got home in the dark, so have yet to plant them, and have all day today to plant some plants and host our first garden party!
